Wolverine Hikes

People who know me know that I belong on the Trail. I've thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail (three times, now),the Pacific Crest Trail and the mighty Continental Divide Trail. I've hiked many of the long trails here in Michigan including being the first to hike both the Ironwood Trail and the Great Lake To Lake Trail. In 2017, I hiked the Israel National Trail and the Golan Heights Trail. I was the first to hike the Baja Divide Trail in Mexico but failed miserably to thru-hike the Bruce Trail in Canada. In 2019, I hiked the TEMBR in Ecuador and 1,150 miles of the North Country Trail as it runs through my home state of Michigan.

The purpose of this blog is to keep anyone who is interested informed of my progress and to encourage those who are able to support me in these endeavors.

This Dog Is Dirty!

Wanna know how to kill a Wolverine? Take him out of the mountains, where he naturally belongs and trap him in a giant metal tube. His free spirit will fade away and eventually, he'll die.
Actually, I'm just really glad for a way to get home. Thanks so much to Sandy Lowe for the ticket. Can't wait to see my family and the members of Camp Champaign. Can't wait to sleep in my own bed. In fact, I can't wait to get back on the trail! I've got itchy feet already and those hills are calling my name. I'm being honest when I say that, as bad as Cutthroat Pass was, I'd rather be there right now than here...in Tube Hell.

I may be FROM Detroit, but my HOME is on the trail.

Bouncer's mom here.
Have been following you into Canada. Thumbs up for a job well done. Bouncer, Storytime and I'm Fine were 30 miles north of Steven's Pass the day you reached Manning. They got caught in that snowstorm and because they were so close to Glacier Peak, the winds were really bad and the snow piled up to block the trail. Bouncer and Storytime found a side trail that took them to safety. I'm Fine kept going. Now it is 13 days later and he has not picked up his package from Stehekin. Andrea Dinsmore has called for a search party.
I know you were in Manning for a while and saw a few hikers come in- including the famous snowshoe group. Anyone see or hear anything about I'm Fine?
Thanks, Libby

Hi Libby -

We've all been concerned about I'm fine. He hiked with Typo for a long time but hasn't been in touch with anyone for weeks. I know he doesn't carry a phone but we hoped he would send out an email or something. The Dinsmores are right to alert Search and Rescue. I hope that if anyone hears anything, they'll spread the word.

How is Bouncer? Did he finish? I really liked hiking with him - we're the same age and have similar backgrounds. Hope he's doing well.

Thanks, again, for all the magic and support you provided to me and all the other hikers. You are truly a Trail Angel.

Hi Wolvey,

Bouncer has been in touch with SAR- as he was the last person to see him on the trail. Now he is a person of interest.
Bouncer has been home since the 22nd but is heading out again tomorrow. A break in the weather has the snow level up to 8000 feet and he thinks he might be able to bag it. Has a lot of winter gear as well as snowshoes- and maybe he can help with finding I'm Fine.
Hope your re-entry is going okay. You did a great job and I know Astro's family is very grateful to you.
Thanks for replying so fast. I thought if anyone had seen I'm Fine north of Stehekin it would be you.

Libby - Glad to hear that Bouncer is doing well and that he's got the right gear and a shot at finishing. SAR has helicopters in the air and will soon have people on the ground looking for I'm Fine. I'm sure he's okay - probably waiting just off the trail somewhere for the weather to break and a chance to finish. Wolverine
